News Release from Dupont Dow Elastomers

10/15/2001

Rubber Expo 2001DuPont Dow Elastomers has developed a new generation of Viton® Advanced Polymer Architecture fluoroelastomers and new, highly crystalline grades of Nordel® IP EPDM that improve processing and end-use performance in a variety of applications.

DuPont Dow will feature the new products in booth #328 at Rubber Expo 2001, sponsored by the American Chemical Society's Rubber Division, at the Cleveland Convention Center in Cleveland, OH, on October 16-19, 2001.

Industries use Viton® productsViton® fluoroelastomers made via Advanced Polymer Architecture offer a combination of improved processability and final part performance not previously available in specialty fluoroelastomers. Resulting from a $50 million investment in proprietary polymerization and curing technology, the new Viton® products meet rigorous new sealing requirements in the automotive, chemical processing, aerospace and semiconductor industries.

The Nordel® IP highly crystalline grades, designated NDR 4820P and NDR 4920P, exhibit ethylene contents of 85 to 90 weight percent. With significantly higher ethylene content than previously possible for competitive EPDM grades, they offer excellent properties, including heat and ozone resistance, good weatherability and ease of processing. Applications in the general rubber industry include extruded profiles, extruded hoses, molded articles or foams requiring high stiffness, toughness, green strength or abrasion resistance.

DuPont Dow will present technical papers on both Viton® and Nordel® IP at Rubber Expo 2001:

Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 16

In related news, the ACS will present a "best paper" award to DuPont Dow for "Perfluoroelastomers in Severe Environments: Properties, Chemistry, and Applications." The paper, by Michael Coughlin, Russell Schnell and Shuhong Wang of DuPont Dow Elastomers, Newark, DE, was presented at the Rubber Division's Spring 2001 meeting in Providence, RI.
