DuPont Dow Elastomers Earns Automotive QS-9000 Quality Registration For Its Viton® and Engage® Businesses

DuPont Dow Elastomers announced it has joined an elite group of manufacturers in its industry to achieve QS-9000 registration, the rigorous supplier quality standard established by the world's largest automakers. The company was recognized by two independent quality auditors for its global production, testing and development facilities, as well as the supply chain and business organizations, supporting its Viton® fluoroelastomers and Engage® polyolefin elastomers businesses.

"We're proud to be among the first elastomer producers to achieve such comprehensive QS-9000 registration," said Theo Krapels, DuPont Dow president and CEO. "Viton® has long set the standard for demanding automotive powertrain and fuel system sealing applications, and Engage® has become the modifier of choice for TPO blends used in automotive exterior and interior parts. Earning the QS-9000 certification assures customers that these outstanding products are backed with internationally recognized quality systems that in turn help them meet automakers' quality requirements."

DuPont Dow has earned two separate QS-9000 registrations for the Viton® and Engage® businesses respectively, covering a total of 10 facilities in the U.S. and Europe. The U.S. facilities were registered by Underwriters Laboratories Inc., and Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance registered the European facilities. The registration process included internal audits of operations and business procedures, which were then reviewed and verified by the outside auditors.

"It's really quite an accomplishment for them," said Eric Grossman, Senior Lead Auditor for Underwriters Laboratories. "Having a QS-9000 registration tells me that a company has a system that is going to get me the right product, at the right time, at the right price."

Viton® is the most specified fluoroelastomer for long-term, reliable sealing in aggressive fuel systems. Engage® is the enabling polymer in a broad range of polyolefin-based compounds for automotive interior and exterior applications, offering processibility and toughness for TPO blends and soft-touch qualities for interior components.
