Release from Dupont Dow Elastomers
10/30/2005 |
Following
a successful launch in July, DuPont Performance Elastomers is
exhibiting at the 2005 ACS Rubber Expo and Technical Meeting,
showcasing Viton® fluoroelastomers, Hypalon® chlorosulfonated
polyethylene and Neoprene polychloroprene selected from its broad
portfolio of high performance elastomers. The company is presenting
three technical papers on advances in fluoroelastomer performance
for automotive fuel system sealing, and is collaborating with
Hamilton Mold & Machine and Engel Canada for an overmolding
demo of Viton® over Nylon 66 to produce, inspect and pack
a finished part in less than 90 seconds.
DuPont
Performance Elastomers has increased its focus on providing high
performance elastomers and sealing solutions to meet a broad range
of customer needs. According to the company, it will deliver innovative
new offerings through its worldwide organization to support customers
in the global shift to new markets.
Viton®
made with Advanced Polymer Architecture
The
company is demonstrating the evolution of a broad range of Viton®
specialty fluoroelastomers types made with Advanced Polymer Architecture
that offer superior processing as well as other benefits.
Also
presented is the latest testing conducted by DuPont Performance
Elastomers that demonstrates the superior long-term stability
of Viton® made with APA in fuel C/methanol blends after 5000
hours, a critical requirement in automotive sealing.
Overmolding
demo with Engel and Hamilton
DuPont
Performance Elastomers collaborated with Engel Canada and Hamilton
Mold & Machine in Booth 524, using a fully automated machine
cell consisting of two Engel machines and an Engel ERC robot to
demonstrate how to mold a thermoplastic Nylon 66 part, overmold
with Viton®, vision inspect, and pack for customer shipment
- all within 90 seconds.
Because
APA polymers reduce or eliminate the need for post-cure, the fluoroelastomer
can be molded directly onto plastic and metal inserts reducing
the potential for damage or warping during post-cure operations.
In combination with Viton®, Engel and Hamilton Mold will show
how to remain competitive with the latest molding technology aimed
at improving performance and lowering production costs.
Advances
in automotive fuel system sealing
Scientists
from DuPont Performance Elastomers will present three papers on
advances in fluoroelastomer sealing of automotive fuel systems
at the ACS Rubber Division Technical Meeting:
-
"Long Term Fuel and Heat Aging of Low Temperature Types
of Fluoroelastomers", by Ronald D. Stevens.
- "Fluoroelastomers
for Extrusion of Thin Wall Veneers and Tubes for Fuel Hose Applications",
by Christopher Grant.
- "Long
Term 150°C Stress Relaxation of GLT-S Fluoroelastomers",
by Ronald D. Stevens.
Hypalon®
and Neoprene Provide Performance When It Matters
The
company will feature product offerings and recent commercial projects
for Hypalon®, reflecting an increased customer interest in
the world's leading chlorosulfonated polyethylene, supported by
re-startup of its development facility in Beaumont, Texas.
Still
the workhorse of the industry and focus of continued innovation,
Neoprene synthetic rubber remains the yardstick for physical toughness
in thousands of static and dynamic applications.
