DuPont Dow Elastomers Builds New Facility for Expanded Viton® Fluoroelastomer Offerings

DuPont Dow Elastomers has broken ground on a facility to make new specialty types of its Viton® fluoroelastomer products in Dordrecht, Netherlands. The company will invest $50MM (USD) in the new facility and proprietary technology over the next two years to launch new specialty fluoroelastomers with improved performance capabilities. The facility is expected to be operational in the first quarter 2002, with up to ten new products available the first year.

"The innovative new technology the DuPont Dow is putting in place further demonstrates our leadership in fluoroeleastomers," said Global Business Director, Bob Bernacki at the groundbreaking ceremony. "We are responding to customer needs for improved performance caused by market trends such as more stringent environmental regulations, low temperature sealing requirements, and more aggressive engine oils and additives. DuPont Dow already offers an exceptional range of performance in our Viton® product line an early indications are that customers will be delighted with the increased flexibility and ability to maximize their business that the new products will offer."

Construction of the new facility caps a three-year initiative to develop a range of products based on the new technology. It will be located adjacent to the current DuPont Dow fluoroelastomer plant and it expands the company's total manufacturing base for Viton® products. The existing Dordrecht and Deepwater, New Jersey plants will continue making the full range of standard and specialty product types.
